“I was born and raised and I live in Scarborough. We come from a people and a place that is, time and time again, overlooked and underserved. Yet despite our hardship, we always rise above. That undying persistence is embedded in everything that I make. Whether it’s singing, dancing, rapping, or photography – my art is linked to a greater mission of representing the stories and the strength of the community that created me.”
Jadyn Scott is a 21-year-old poet, rapper, singer, guitarist and actress. Dedicated to representing the resilience and beauty of East Scarborough, the foundation of her creative journey is born out of the desire and a self-obliged duty to be a storyteller: To make a statement to the world, to speak for those whose voices went unheard, to capture the invisible and allow it to be seen.
Jadyn’s poems and songs are stories that spread a message of joy and triumph. Through her art, she is a dreamer and a liberator. Jadyn is “the rose that grew from concrete”, and she writes with the thorn.
