    FILMMAKER

“Scarborough is the reason I became a filmmaker. Growing up surrounded by nature, exploring freely as a child, and fueling my imagination, while also being immersed in so many cultures, foods, and languages, made me endlessly curious about the world and the stories within it. Having filmed much of my work in Scarborough, it continues to be a constant source of inspiration. As I said in my speech after winning my fourth Canadian Screen Award, Scarborough Forever!”

“Simply put, Scarborough is everything. Since we opened in 2001, we were welcomed, encouraged and supported by the people of Scarborough. Beautiful people who hailed from different cultures across the globe. Whether someone was from Poland or Fiji, Hong Kong or Ghana, Peru or Trinidad & Tobago – everyone found a way to connect with what we were doing here. Finding similarities between cooking methods, kitchen utensils and even spices. You realize that we are more similar than we are different. That’s the beauty of Scarborough and I hope we never change.”

“Scarborough was the vessel that carried us through life’s early journeys. Few hold on to childhood ties this long – but we did. Growing up in the East gave us more than roots… it gave us a creative bond strong enough to see the world.”

“Scarborough has always been home — the place where my love forbasketball, community, and family was built. Growing up here shaped my values and taught me life lessons I now share with the next generation. I believe our lived experiences are powerful tools, and through them, we can inspire future leaders to dream bigger, do more, and create lasting impact.”
