STC is taking thousands of bees under our wing!
We’re proud to take part in a progressive initiative to create a more eco-conscious city
by installing beehives on the rooftop of our shopping centre.
What’s the buzz?
More than 15,000 bees are making their home on the rooftop of STC and will pollinate
the urban flora throughout the surrounding area during the summer months.
About the bees
STC is working with Alvéole, a social beekeeping company, and built two sustainable beehives on our mall rooftop to improve pollination in the Scarborough area.
Since 2013, Alvéole has partnered with hundreds of companies and schools to start beekeeping projects, each hive creating more ecological awareness, allowing city dwellers to reconnect with nature and change their sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Bees play a prominent role in helping create raw material for the manufacturing of everyday goods. From candles, to cough drop lozenges, to the growth of fruits and vegetables, bees are an important factor in the production of many things.
In order to raise awareness and educate the community on the impact of honey bees, STC will hold informational sessions and workshops.
Why did we participate?
Take a look at our
STC x Moxie’s Herb Garden
In an effort to introduce innovative sustainability and help shape the perception of our eco-urban environment, STC has transformed a portion of the centre’s facility into a Green Rooftop Project.
In addition to the 2 beehives, a complementary portion of the Green Rooftop Project
consists of planting the STC Herb Garden for the exclusive use of Moxie’s chefs.
Daily dishes will be prepped featuring the
fresh herbs and vegetables harvested from the garden.
