Earth Day takes place yearly on April 22nd, with its mission: to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide.
While it is a major global effort, you can easily participate in Earth Day causes. The littlest changes can help make the biggest impact.
Here are some ways you can support Earth Day in the comfort of STC!
A lot of newer brands are making an effort to be eco-friendly and Frank + Oak is an ideal example. Their clothing is made with methods that minimize impact on the planet by using fabrics made from recycled and organic materials. This includes wool, hemp, cotton and polylife fibre – recycled polyester sourced from discarded plastic bottles. Even their shopping bags are 100% recycled, recyclable and biodegradable!
Well known fashion brands are also starting to make sustainable clothing, such as Guess. They are much loved for their trendy style and have just recently introduced an Eco line. This collection is made with environmentally conscious materials including t-shirts made from 100% organic cotton and jeans made with less water and 30% recycled plastic bottles.
You don’t necessarily have to shop to be environmentally conscious. Besides launching a Conscious Exclusive line, H&M also hosts a Garment Collection Program. Their program encourages you to drop off unwanted garments at their store. All textiles, brands and conditions are welcome. And bonus – for every bag of textiles you drop off, H&M will give you a discount card for $5 off your next $30 in store purchase!
If you’ve read our blog posts, it’s no secret we’re a huge fan of Saje Natural Wellness! And what makes us love them more is knowing that their products are 100% natural. They contain no artificial fragrances, parabens, silicone or SLS. Major points, they don’t test on animals and majority of their products are vegan friendly. Plus, they too offer packaging made of recycled or recyclable materials.
And while they’re more known for their amazing essential oils and skin care and beauty products, they also offer a line of home cleaning products. The Multi Clean all purpose cleaner, Dish Wish dish soap and Kitchen Cleanse room & surface spray are all eco-friendly. And their Tidy Trio cleaning cloths are biodegradable and can be placed into compost when needed.
Participating in Earth Day can go even beyond our retailers. We here at STC offer a variety of services and amenities to contribute to a sustainable future environment.
Earlier this year, we launched our EV Charging Stations by Entrance 3. These are the first ENERGY STAR certified EV chargers that charge efficiently and conserve power when not charging.
Our TASTE MRKT offers over 20 fast food vendors, but also with the option to “dine in”. This allows our guests to help save on the use of take out containers, by opting for our scullery service. Please be kind and don’t forget to drop your trays off at our tray stations!
And instead of adding a drink to your meal which usually means pop cans or plastic bottles, come prepared with your own. There are so many sizes and options for reusable water bottles – even pretty designs. S’well is one of our faves when it comes to patterns!
Another simple way of participating in Earth Day is to be conscious of your garbage. Our bins in the centre offer 3 options for garbage – Paper, Plastic and Trash. Take the extra few seconds to dispose of your waste in the correct bin.
As we said before, the littlest changes can help make the biggest impact!
There are so many more steps we can take to go green and conserve energy without breaking the bank. These are some initiatives you can do in your own home or office space:
- Turn off and unplug electronics you’re not using
- Turn off lights when you leave a room
- Bring reusable bags when you shop
- Read documents online instead of printing them
- Change your paper bills to online billing
