Mall Security Team and Safety Tips

Safety First

Scarborough Town Centre is committed to making your visit to our Centre a safe and secure one. We offer many services and programs that promote this type of environment for our shoppers.

Our storefront Security Office is located across from the TD Canada Trust Bank on the lower level of the Shopping Centre and is open to the public during mall hours.

Security coverage for the Shopping Centre is scheduled on a 24 hour-a-day basis, 365 days-a-year. Our Security Base Station is manned by a Security Officer who is responsible for monitoring the Shopping Centre's C.C.T.V. camera system, receiving all incoming telephone calls, dispatching Security Officers and providing customer assistance.

Security Officers constantly patrol the entire shopping facility and Security Vehicle Patrols of the parking facilities around the Shopping Centre are conducted year-round by two marked vehicles. During summer months a Bike Patrol is also in operation. Below is a more in-depth look at some of the security services we offer.

Bike/Van Patrol

The Security Staff patrol the parking areas year round in two marked vans, as well as on bikes in the Spring and Summer months. These vehicles are highly visible, always looking for suspicious activity and providing assistance to customers in the parking lot, including searching for lost vehicles. Security will boost vehicles in the event they will not start, however, please contact your own emergency vehicle company for any other matters.

Police Substation

The substation operates in the Shopping Centre beside the security office. Toronto Police Service have assigned police officers to respond to calls for service in the Shopping Centre.

CCTV

For your comfort and protection, a closed circuit camera surveillance system is in operation throughout the property. The cameras are monitored by Security and functioning 24 hours a day.

Safety Tips

Although we have taken every precaution to make shopping at Scarborough Town Centre an enjoyable and safe experience, please find below a few safety tips you might want to keep in mind before you visit.
  • Let your family and friends know of your shopping plans and when you will be coming home.
  • Double check your vehicle to make sure it is locked and windows are rolled up.
  • Keep all shopping parcels and other valuables out of sight.
  • Never leave children unattended. Always plan ahead with your child, in the event that you become separated. (i.e. where to go for help and/or where to meet)
  • Keep purses close to your body. Wallets should be kept in a front pocket. Waist packs are also useful for keeping money in front of you while you, while leaving your hands free for shopping.
  • Keep track of your credit cards. Tear up all carbons and save receipts. Keep a list of all credit card numbers in a safe place.
  • If you are leaving Scarborough Town Centre and someone approaches you, return to the building and contact Security. Our staff will escort you to your vehicle.
  • Have car keys in hand before you get to your car. When you return to your car, be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you are entering any parking lot, and you see someone you think might be a threat, stay in your car and drive away.
  • If you see any suspicious activity and/or people, please notify Scarborough Town Centre Security or a Guest Service representative immediately.
